We had a great time last night celebrating Lek's Eagle with family and friends. We had a lot of patient people contact us through skype and google chat (which we ended up using)..."patient" because it took us a while to get things going and it was hard to know how things would play out, so we spent a lot of time playing with features of google "hang out." (There are some hilarious faces and sounds you can make, apparently :).)
Lek was so grateful for the support. You could tell his love cup was filled. Well, the visiting did that, but I also think the yummy food helped him feel loved :): Cucumber szalad, pork stuff over french fries, ice cream/sundae treat, and "happiness" cookies (chocolate cookies with white chocolate candybar chunked into it). He smiled down to his toes as he talked and ate. We are so proud of him and all that went into getting his Eagle award. I wish I could sew up a quilt like my mom would have or do something else to celebrate besides just feed him :). I will have to think about that one.

Eagle Scout Lek!!
Woohoo!
As of 2 am, two weeks ago tomorrow morning, Lek became an Eagle Scout! After all his hard work before he left (and it was all his because he had a pregnant, packing mom to work with), he finally had his Board of Review via skype. I cannot believe I haven't blogged about it yet!
Funny story behind the time of day we had it: His records for his Eagle got sent to a Murray scout troop...one we have never been affiliated with :). They contacted us and said they would still be happy to process it and conduct the Board of Review, even though we didn't know them and they didn't know us. We thought, "sure!"
So, after a few weeks of back and forth figuring out a time, Lek got an email that went something like this:
"We have organized some men to conduct the Board of Review via skype at 6 pm our time this next Sunday. That should be about 10 am your time. Would that work?"
We had sent an email that they had misinterpreted 8 hours in the wrong direction :). 6 pm Utah time is actually 2 am Hungary time, but at this point we were so excited to get it done, that Lek said, "Let's do it!" He politely replied that the time they proposed would be great, and set his alarm.
Alarm went off, he got up and got into his scout shirt, and came into our room to skype. Because our doors are so thin, we could hear most of what was said, and it was incredible. The men that were working with Lek were incredible mentors, able to inspire, support, and validate Lek. I was soooooo impressed, both with Lek's answers and their feedback. If all young men or scout leaders could be and talk like those men, we would have many more amazing young men in this world!

Look at Lek's Eagle project
Here are some catch-up pictures of Lek's eagle project: gathering
supplies for a women's shelter. He headed the whole thing up,
phonecalls, research, planning, recruiting and all. It was while I was
crazy busy trying to get ready to go to Hungary, so he really didn't get
any help from me. Now we
just need to set up the skype board of review to finish it all...when things settle down? Does that happen? Maybe we just need to schedule it! :)

Q-dawg leaving today!
After working his way through a monumental list, I think he is actually ready. I am already missing him like crazy, but am grateful
For future reference (and for the benefit of anyone else who finds themselves doing this crazy thing :)...), I wanted to jot down a few of those things:
-Setting up a bank account that he can have his US source of income transferred over and used in Hungary without exorbitant ATM fees each time
-Getting his residency visa items in order: proof of insurance, income, extra passport pictures of us, forms, etc.
-Hotel and rental car on arrival
-Sale of car/other items here that we are getting rid of
-Checking to see if the Frankfurt temple rents temple clothes :)...they do.
-Finding out weights and measurements for luggage capacity
-Determining internet availability and speed
-Getting adapters for electronic devices (different plugs and different currents!)
-Finishing up last orders for work
-Transfer money to the right accounts, keep pins straight, and get cash out
-Determine if the exchange rate from US currency to forint is better here or in Hungary (the latter...)
-Pack (last night, starting at 7 pm...no time like the present, eh?)
-Drill wife on what to do with incoming calls on his cell phone while she is here and brainwash her to remember in her tired, stressed, pregnant state to turn it off when she boards the plane so we don't get any crazy wandering fees
-Breathe
-Find houses to look at and set up appointments (he has 12 or more for Friday and Saturday)
-Figure out how our health care plans work over there and set up doctor's visits for me (a week from Friday is the first one--leave kids at new house day after arriving? Hmmmm....still thinking about that one...)
We also celebrated Hava's birthday a little early yesterday so Q-dawg could be there. Unfortunately, we ended up opening presents after 9 pm, so Hava was very, very tired and wired. (Shara can vouch for that...we were lucky to have her over at that time, although I don't know how lucky she considers herself...especially after finding out, at the end of her visit, that some of our kids have what we call "throw-up burps." Sorry, Shara :)!) She had a great time with her gifts in her tired, numbed mental state, and then we had some chocolate cake, with hot fudge topping and ice cream. (Hava and Avot were in chocolate heaven.) As far as the gifts, it was touching to see Pipalicious and Chugger-dude give her one of their few remaining toys, stuffed dogs, to her as presents. I love the giving nature of children.
As far as "lists before we go," Liliputian keeps adding to ours. The latest: "I want to go hiking before we go!" Sorry, child. There is only so much time :). Lek and the Goob keep adding "movies to watch before we go," as if we are going into technological darkness. So fun :). The Goob just finished "The Fellowship of the Ring" so we could watch it, and is busily cruising through "The Two Towers."
Lek is madly finishing up his Eagle stuff. We thought we had everything, but apparently we miscounted and he ended up finishing up this Geneology and Reading merit badge yesterday. Thank goodness Grandpa and Grandma are the respective merit badge counselors for those! And thank goodness they like boys to get Eagles, because they sweetly made themselves available on very short notice :)...
Avot has her Kindle all good to go, with all sorts of great books on it: Shakespeare, the scriptures, The Ordinary Princess...good things!
Chugger-dude is "measure-man extraordinaire"...I had no idea he was so great at calculating the numbers with their increments of 2 to 20 pounds on our scale! He is quick to want to help me spot a weight number or weigh something new. What a nice chap :).
Better run and eat. Lots to do, but wanted to just jot down a few things...
