From Allowance to Avot

Kick back kind of morning. I got up a little early and was able to get some calm, get-ahead time.  The sun is shining.  Some kids are way behind in jobs and some are on time but we are learning accountability and responsibility and that takes individual gumption :).

We have adapted our allowance/stewardship system a bit to reflect something I read in my Amish book. (Love that book.)  Each day if they get their jobs and basics done by 7 am, they get a dollar.  They are responsible to ask me if they need to get up with some help to do it.  (And they need to respond happily if I do...I hate waking people up who are sleeping so peacefully, especially when they have a smile on their face!)  At 9 am, the same old rule applies: they get extra jobs, still have to finish their jobs and get no dollar.  Those who are responsible to finish jobs on their own (they decide this for themselves) will get $10 at the end of the month for their labor.

By the age of 12, they are each responsible for their own clothes and expenses (summer camps, etc.) with their allowance.  It is a stretch but they can do it if they plan ahead (and get nice birthday pants and undies, lol.)

Anyway, this way they have the money they get from being "stewards" on a daily basis (it gets put into their jar to be collected at the end of the month), and I don't have to keep track!  Brilliant.

Last looks at Avot! (Sorry if it is a re-post. I couldn't find them posted in a quick glance through...)

So much fun!
